My Interesting Legend Of Wairaka

Hello bloggers, me and my class have been working on retelling the story of Wairaka.
It took like a week to do it, it was a boring. have u ever been told the legend of Wairaka

The legend of Wairaka

Many, many years ago, there was a waka in the sea.

There was Wairaka and her tribe paddling across the sea. It was around 3:00 in the afternoon.

They could hear lots of birds and they could see parrots in the palm trees. There were lots of birds, and they could also see Sea Gulls.

It was very hot at the beach, the sand was boiling.

When Wairaka was sitting on the sea she could smell the salty water.

Suddenly, there was a very dangerous storm.

There were massive clouds and there was a lot of rain.

Quickly the boat was rocking side to side, the men were on the island looking for water and checking if it was safe.

Suddenly, the waka was heading quickly towards massive rocks.

But women couldn't touch the paddle.

Wairaka, (the daughter of chief Toroa), knew that she had to make a courageous decision and she did.

She was going to lift up the paddle but it was considered (Tapu) or sacred for women to touch the paddles, only the men were allowed to touch the paddles.

She lifted up the paddle and said “ Kia Whakatane au i ahau”

She pulled and pulled but the waves were too strong.

Quickly, they heard lots of loud thunder, up ahead they could see the lightning.

The waves were rising and lots of rain was falling on their heads.

Someone screamed out “where all gonna die”

Everyone started screaming.

There was a lot of noise, the waka was rocking side to side, everything was falling into the sea.

The waves were as big as bolder.

Slowly, the waka went on to land, all the people were carrying Wairaka, some were kissing the ground and people were also shouting.

Everyone was so relieved that they had survived.

Afterwards they thought that the island was very beautiful.

All the men were very proud the chief said to Wairaka “you have made the right choice, you have saved most of the village”

They lived happily ever after, THE END.
